Google Message Discovery (formerly Postini) delivers all of the features and benefits of Google Message Security with fully integrated email compliance services. Google Message Discovery (GMD) provides maximum control over electronic records archiving, retention, discovery, and recovery functions.
Delivered in a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, GMD requires no hardware or software installation. GMD archives messages and attachments in real-time, as they pass inbound or outbound through the service.
As a service, GMD lowers administrative costs by off-loading staff from data backup, management, and security tasks.
Archive
GMD centralizes the storage of message data into a single company archive, offloading data from mail servers and enforcing standard retention policies.
Secure Access
With password controls, users may access their individual archives for recovery purposes. Only designated administrators may access the archives company-wide. Security settings also provide specific users with advanced tools for searching, sharing, extracting, and reporting.
Recovery / Discovery
With a comprehensive web-based console, managing multiple searches or investigations is easy. Powerful search capabilities, along with the ability to save and restore email data, let users gather and recover the information they need.
To support policy-driven investigations and litigation, GMD places records on hold, temporarily preventing automatic message deletion.
Flexibility
GMD may archive messages for a single year, or for up to 10 years. Archives may be limited to inbound and outbound messages, or, with journaling in place, include all internal email messages as well.
GMD is designed to allow retention policies to match legal and regulatory requirements and corporate policies. Retention policies may vary at the user or group level by organization or geography.
Reporting
Reporting capabilities include system utilization for storage and retention management.
Audit trails of activity within the system track specific actions to ensure compliance.
